According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not put Ferland Mendy up for sale but could cash in on him if a suitor presents an attractive proposal. The Merengues are open to offloading the French international for around €50 million amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United. Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in July 2019 and has since endured a mixed bag of a stint with Los Blancos. While the 27-year-old has garnered a lot of success in the Spanish capital, he has also had some fitness issues, particularly in the 2021/22 season.
The French defender has turned out 105 times for Real Madrid thus far, chipping in with five goals and nine assists. But Mendy faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the summer transfer window following Antonio Rudiger’s arrival in a Bosman move. However, he will not have a shortage of suitors if he leaves Real Madrid, with Chelsea and Manchester United keen on signing him.
The interest from Chelsea stems from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard wants to return to his homeland in the summer transfer window amid links with Barcelona, with Chelsea unlikely to stand in his way. Mendy is thus a viable target for Chelsea, who could have a world-class left wing-back arsenal in the Real Madrid defender and Ben Chilwell. But the Blues will have to stave off stiff competition from Manchester United to secure the services of the French international in the summer transfer window.
The links with Manchester United are somewhat surprising unless Alex Telles leaves. While the Brazilian international has emerged on the radar of former club FC Porto, the rumours have gone cold in the last few weeks. But Mendy could be an option worth considering if Telles leaves, with his €50 million price tag unlikely to deter Manchester United.
